2nd Grade Reading Lab
Our Second Grade Reading Lab is designed for students who are ready to become stronger, more thoughtful readers through engaging chapter books and meaningful discussions. As students transition from learning to read to reading for understanding, they will strengthen the skills needed for success in both the classroom and on district and state reading assessments.
Through high-interest chapter books, interactive lessons, and small-group instruction, students will develop deeper reading comprehension while learning to think critically about what they read. Throughout the year, students will strengthen essential literacy skills including inferencing, character analysis, vocabulary development, reading fluency, summarizing, and written responses. Students will also participate in collaborative book discussions, cite evidence from the text to support their thinking, and build confidence expressing their ideas both verbally and in writing.
In addition to enjoying great literature, students will practice the comprehension strategies commonly found on classroom assessments and standardized reading tests. They will learn how to analyze passages, answer higher-level comprehension questions, identify key details, determine the author's purpose, make predictions, draw conclusions, and support answers using text evidence.

Split Payment Option: $300 due at registration; remaining $220 due October 1st

Beyond 2nd Grade Math
Our Second Grade Math Lab is designed to reinforce and enrich the concepts students are learning in their second-grade classroom. Following the pacing guides used by many local school districts, this class provides students with additional practice, enrichment, and confidence as new skills are introduced throughout the school year. It is also an excellent fit for high-achieving first graders who are ready for more advanced mathematical thinking and are looking for an extra challenge.
Through engaging math games, hands-on activities, problem-solving tasks, and small-group instruction, students strengthen their understanding while developing flexible thinking and confidence. Throughout the year, students will explore topics including mental math strategies, addition and subtraction within 20, 100, and 1,000, place value, one- and two-step word problems, money, time, measurement, graphing, arrays, even and odd numbers, shapes and fractions, and early multiplication concepts. Students will also develop strong problem-solving skills by learning to explain their mathematical reasoning and apply multiple strategies to solve real-world problems.
